More about Denease

Helping You Move Forward

Denease received her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1998. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has received specialized training in childhood trauma, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy (Level 1), and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (Levels 1 and 2). She has also completed an intensive externship in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

Denease spent several years of her practice working with children and adolescents first in a psychiatric residential facility and later at the Children's Advocacy Center in Jackson, MS. There, she also trained first responders (law enforcement, social workers, nurses, etc.) in forensic interviewing of children.

Denease has spoken at workshops and conferences on topics such as parenting and childhood sexual abuse. Those who have attended her workshops have found her to be engaging, humorous and easily relatable.

Denease has worked in private practice since 2004 and has found working with women of all ages to be an honor. Since moving to Oxford, MS in 2016, she has had the privilege of working with college students and seeing them grow by leaps and bounds in the context of the therapeutic relationship. Working with couples and families has been a driving force since before she chose where to attend graduate school! Being able to come alongside couples and families to help them gain insight and learn new relational skills is one of the things she is most passionate about.

Denease welcomes curiosity from those who are uncertain about beginning therapy and is happy to provide a phone consultation free of charge.
